“I came to Thailand thinking that I would do something for others. In the end, I was the one who was changed.”
During my two weeks with the Immanuel Orchestra, I was deeply moved by how genuinely the children enjoyed making music together. It reminded me of why I first fell in love with music — before competitions and results made it feel complicated.
Meeting the children also changed the way I understood words like “poverty” and “inequality.” They were no longer distant ideas from textbooks or the news, but real people with their own personalities, dreams, laughter, and love for music.
I did not leave Thailand with all the answers. Instead, I left with more questions, a deeper desire to understand, and a determination to do whatever I can.
I came thinking I would give something to others. In the end, I discovered that I was the one who was changed.

I had a fun time volunteering at the music for life foundation. The first step in helping others is to make sure that they genuinely want your help. And that is what I felt when volunteering at the foundation. The community here was very kind and I felt welcomed. They were also very patient and supportive even when I made slight mistakes. I think this comes from the attitude that they believe more hands are better than none so no matter what work you take on at the foundation, you will be accepted as a valuable member of the group.
